Science and medicine have made some amazing discoveries, one of which is the similarity between a pig heart and a human heart. As part of a unit on our body systems, 3rd grade has the wonderful opportunity to examine this similarity by dissecting real pig hearts! H & K Meats in Jefferson very generously donates these hearts each year. The children will get to see and touch the chambers of the heart, tracing with their fingers the path that blood follows from the body to the lungs and back out to the body. They will label the different parts of the heart, feel how muscular this organ is, and be in awe of the unique way God designed living organisms to function. Who knows? Maybe one of our 3rd graders will grow up to become the doctor who can make pig heart transplants fully effective and save countless lives!
